Class 2 Hardwood Plywood is a type of plywood characterised by a hardwood veneer front and back. This cross-layered timber veneered panel provides consistent strength in interior and exterior applications (providing the edges are sealed). Hardwood faced plywood is strong, versatile and cost-effective.
Previously referred to as WBP plywood (Weather and Boil Proof), this terminology has now been superseded by EN13986 and EN636 classifications.
The "Class 2" designation comes from the European standard EN 314-2, which specifies the quality of the glue used to bond the wood veneers together.
Use classes explained:
- Class 1: Dry conditions (interior use).
- Class 2: Humid conditions (protected exterior service, damp internal uses, limited exposure during construction).
- Class 3: Exterior conditions (exposure to weather) but must still be edge sealed.
Why choose plywood?
- Strength: The cross-laminated structure of plywood gives it superior strength and load-bearing capacity compared to solid wood of the same thickness.
- Durability: Plywood resists cracking, shrinking, and warping, even under varying moisture and temperature conditions.
- Versatility: Whether you are building furniture, lining walls or constructing flooring systems, plywood is suitable for a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Applications:
- Construction: walls, roofs, subfloors
- Furniture: cabinets, shelves, tables
- DIY projects: home improvement
- Industrial use: packaging, formwork, shopfitting & site-hoarding
